Mangaluru: Man possessing excessive foreign currency held at airport

Mangaluru, Sep 16: A person who was found to be possessing foreign currency notes in excess of permissible limit was taken into custody by the Central Industrial Security Force personnel at the international airport here on Sunday September 15 evening. The person in question was trying to travel to Dubai. 

Harry Stephan Antony D'Souza was found to be in possession of dirhams and American dollar currency notes totally worth Rs 5.88 lac. These notes were seized from him.

 

At around 7 pm on Sunday, the above passenger, who was to fly to Dubai, was checked by the officials. They found Rs 2.93 lac worth of dirhams and Rs 2.94 lac worth of dollars in the form of currency notes. The passenger was handed over to the customs officials for further inquiry.

    Please google and find out the amount of foreign currency one can carry outside India. Don't get confused by all these posts. My research revealed that when travelling outside India one can carry $5,000 worth of foreign currency (Rs.3.5 Lakh worth) and another $5,000 (worth Rs.3.5 Lakhs) in negotiable instruments i.e. bank draft etc. without declaring it. If it is more than $5000 + $5000, one has to declare the amount and sources at the customes.
    While entering India, one can bring in upto $10,000 worth of foreign currency without declaring it. If it is more than $10K, one must declare it. I think it is the latest update but double check every time you leave the country.
    The limits were set by the customs long ago. We can write to RBI to increase the limits due to inflation

    Rocks mangalore,you have to pay first fine for it ,depending on amount.later they decide whether you can have it or not.mostly can take it .Best is you should declare it before you leave your country suppose have a big amount.otherwise trouble is vor programmiert.

    This is called tortorturing a common man. May be In Indian rupees amount looks big based on conversion. but the reality is in Dirhams it is only AED15,050.00 which is one month expenses for any common man stays with his family & school going childrens etc. Looto salo looto Aam admi ko bechara nanga karo.

    Prakash, Please dont mislead public by giving wrong information, First of all common man wont earn AED: 15000 per month, secondly they dnt spend what they earn, third even family maintenance is not that much costly in dubai, fourth, no one bring money from India to dubai for day to day spend...

    It’s not salary u get ,it’s regarding currency he was caught which was not permitted from India to carry outside in form of cash.He may hv crore of income it’s different ,but while questioning that person he should give satisfied answer not just like saying like D K Shivkumar that 7.5 crores found in his Delhi flat was his Family ‘s Agricultural income.
