Bengaluru, Sep 12: Congress leaders like Siddaramaiah and Dinesh Gundu Rao are in New Delhi now, reportedly to discuss the issue of choosing leader of the opposition in the state assembly.
Siddaramaiah had been the Congress parliamentary party leader in the assembly during the coalition government in the state. In the recent past, D K Shivakumar had emerged as a front runner for the post. Shivakumar had openly expressed his readiness to either become state president of the party or opposition leader.
As Shivakumar had repeatedly proved himself to be a major trouble shooter for the party in the recent years, and as he was making efforts to bag one of these posts, his chances were bright. It is said that within the Congress party, relentless efforts were secretly made to keep Siddaramaiah away from the corridors of power. Because of Shivakumar, anti Siddaramaiah lobby in the party had become strong.
As Shivakumar is currently mired in problems and facing probe by Enforcement Directorate, Siddaramaiah seems to have emerged as a front runner for the post of the opposition leader in the assembly. In all possibility, leaders will hold discussions at New Delhi on Thursday and arrive at a final decision.
