Puttur, Jul 6: After a fire erupted in a shop in Kadaba dealing with fancy, stationery and other items on the night of Saturday July 4, the entire stock in the shop including electrical fittings, furniture etc., were burnt down. Loss of about seven lac rupees has been estimated in this incident.
The incident occurred after the shop was closed for the day and the owner went home. The local people who saw flames rising from the shop, informed the policemen. Under the guidance of the policemen, workers of the nearby hotels and bars worked for two hours before they could extinguish the fire. By the time the fire brigade personnel arrived on the scene, almost the entire stock in the shop had been gutted.
Shop keeper Madhava Hegde has filed a petition with the policemen and the revenue department about the incident. He said, cash amounting to Rs 35,000 he had kept in the shop after drawing it from the bank, for paying the college fees of his son, also had been reduced to ashes in the incident.
Kadaba sub inspector of police Nandakumar and revenue officer Shivashankar Jadhav inspected the site and assessed the damage.
