Bengaluru, Sep 7: The murder of Yogesh Gowda, who was a zilla panchayat member of Dharwad zilla panchayat, had raised a political furore in Karnataka. The state government is planning to hand over investigation of this case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Yogesh Gowda was killed in a savagely manner in Saptapura Bavi area of the city on June 16, 2016. The incident had given rise to mudslinging between the BJP and the Congress. BJP had agitated against the then Congress government led by Siddaramaiah. The BJP had urged the government to hand over the investigation to CBI, but the government had turned down this demand.

The BJP had accused the then minister and MLA representing Dharwad constituency Vinay Kulkarni, of having a hand in this murder. It had demanded his resignation, but the then government had solidly backed Vinay Kulkarni. If the CBI takes up investigation, it is believed, Vinay Kulkarni, who lost both assembly and Lok Sabha election later, may face the heat.
