Kundapur, Sep 6: Byndoor youth Congress urged Udupi deputy commissioner to permit sand mining in Byndoor and Kundapur. They forwarded a request to this effect through Byndoor tahsildar.
“Sand mining has stopped completely in Udupi district as it is not permitted. Therefore, thousands of construction workers who depend on sand for their livelihood are put to hardship. Government schemes such as Ashraya, Ambedkar and Basava Vasati and construction of houses for fishermen also have become impossible. Sand mining is permitted in Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada district, but it is sad that the government is not allowing it in Udupi. Sand mining should be allowed in the district also. Violent protests will be held in future if our demands are not met,” stated Byndoor youth Congress in the request submitted to the deputy commissioner.
The request was submitted through Byndoor tahsildar office on Friday. Youth Congress president, Shekar Poojary, block chief secretary, Nagaraja Ganiga, Sathish Shetty Uppalli, Suresh Hobalidar, Ganesh Poojary Byndoor, labour unit president, Manjunath Poojary, minority unit president Tabrez Nagoor, Laxman Yadthare, Manikya Hobalidar, Vijaya Nagoor, Shabbir Byndoor, Harish Maravanthe, Udaya Poojary, Ramachandra Hosakote and Somashekar Uppunda were present.
