Kasargod, Sep 6: K Surendran, chief secretary of Kerala state BJP, visited Our Lady of Mercy church Manjeshwar, which was attacked by miscreants on August 18. He got the details of the incident from the parish priest Fr Vincent Saldanha.
Assuring full support of BJP, Surendran said, "The attack on the church is a pre-planned one. It is really condemnable that the police have still not arrested the culprits, though they have the information. We have a suspicion that the mafia gangs that function in the vicinity of the church are behind this attack. Police are trying to protect them. Fingers are also pointed at some political leaders of safeguarding the accused. These politicians are trying to protect the accused by putting pressure on the police. The Kerala government, which speaks of the protection of minorities, has failed to arrest the assailants. There is a need to intense protest on this issue. We have our full support for the fight for justice."
District president of BJP K Srikanth, state committee member Kuntaru Ravish Tantri, Manjeshwar Mandala president Satishchandra Bhandary, district committee member Harishchandra Manjeshwar, Vijaykumar Rai, Yadava Badaje and Yuva Morcha Mandala chief secretary Rajesh Tuminadu were present.
