Mangalore, Jul 4: In a two separate incidents of theft reported from the outskirts of the city, in all 36.5 sovereigns of gold has been stolen by the thieves who entered the houses breaking open the front door.
The incidents of theft occurred at residences of Claudy D’Souza and Lancy Periera of Suratkal and Bajpe, respectively. The thieves broke into the residence of Periera in Farangipalla, Kolambe here by breaking open the lock of main door at about 12 noon on Thursday July 2 when he was out of the house to visit a relative in a hospital in Mangalore.
The incident came to light when Periera returned home in the evening. The thieves have decamped with 16.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery kept in a cupboard in the residence. Police visited the spot.
Meanwhile, in another incident 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 4,000 in cash has been stolen from D’Souza’s residence near Jarandaya Daivasthana, Kana near here on Friday July 3. The incident came to light when he returned back home after work.
Cases have been registered at bajpe and Suratkal police stations, respectively and the investigations are on.
