Puttur, Sep 4: A Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) activist and office bearer was brutally murdered around midnight of Tuesday, September 3.
Karthik Suvarna from Sampya is the deceased person. He was the son of Merla Remesh, a retired education official.
As per information given by the police, Ganeshotsava function was in progress at Sampya under Puttur rural police station limits. Around 11.30 pm Charanraj and Kiran, residents of Sampya along with their vehicle driver Preethesh approached Karthik Suvarna, who was at the function and verbally abused him. Subsequently, Kiran caught the hand of Karthik Suvarna, while Preethesh stabbed the lower part of the chest of Karthik with a sharp weapon. Because of the wound, blood started oozing from the chest of Karthik and he immediately collapsed on the spot.
When the public gathered at the spot of scuffle, the assailants made good the escape with the knife used to stab Karthik in a car bearing registration number KA 21 Z 234.
Karthik Suvarna was rushed to Adarsh hospital of the town for further treatment. However, the doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.
A case in this connection is registered in the Puttur rural police station under column 120 (B), 504, 302 along with 34 of IPC as per the complaint given by Keshava Suvarna (62), relative of the deceased Karthik Suvarna, resident of Aryapu village of the taluk.
