Sullia, Sep 4: A couple of persons claiming to be foreign nationals, who visited a shop dealing in electronics items here on Tuesday September 3, diverted the owner’s attention and stole cash, it is reported.
The duo entered the said shop located at Gandhinagar here on Tuesday afternoon and claimed themselves to be Iranian citizens. They initially wanted to know whether they can exchange their iron box with a mixie. Later they also put several questions to the shop owner including about the highest denomination currency note of India.
Even as they kept the shop owner busy in sweet conversation, they reportedly took away cash from the shop owner. In the guise of curiosity, they sought to see currency notes of different denominations by acting as if they were eager about them, and during the process, put several of these notes into their pockets. They returned without transacting any business.
Later, the shopkeeper found that there was a shortfall of Rs 33,000 in the day's collection. Reportedly, he checked the CCTV footage and found out that the people claiming to be from Iran were the ones who took away this cash.
However, no complaint about this incident was filed in the police station here till Tuesday evening.
