Margao: CM Favours Decentralization of Power

Margao, Jul 1: Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has said that his government, which has been working tirelessly for the welfare of the common man, has taken the administration to the doorsteps of the people by delegating and decentralizing various powers. This mechanism of decentralization of power has helped to provide basic amenities and redress the grievances of the people, particularly living in backward talukas like Canacona, he added.

The Chief Minister, who visited Sristhal in Canacona taluka on Tuesday June 30 to listen to the grievances of the people, added that his government, which has completed two years in office, has launched several schemes for the upliftment of the weaker sections of the society. The flower and vegetable vendors and the kiosk owners have been provided with financial assistance. Besides, health care facilities are made available at the doorsteps of the people now, he said.

The Chief Minister said, the government is paying equal attention for the development of rural and urban areas. As part of the government’s endeavour to provide good governance, reception rooms have been opened at Margao and Panaji police stations for the convenience of the people, he disclosed. He also exhorted the government officials to attend to the needs of the people promptly.

Subhash Shirodkar, former information minister, listed out various schemes of the government and appealed to the people to derive its benefits for their upliftment.

Vandana Velip, sarpanch of Sristhal, Subhash Phaldessai, Govind Phaldessai, Premanand Velip, deputy sarpanch, G P Naik, collector of South Goa and senior officials from different government Departments were present on the occasion.
