Udupi, Aug 25: A stone hand axe, belonging to stone age was unearthed at the land belonging to Ramesh Patkar, a resident of Sadambailu-Sedipatla of Batakallu are under the limits of Moodubelle gram panchayt of Shirva near here.
This precious axe was unearthed by archaeological inventors Subhash Nayak Bantakallu and Shruthesh Acharya Moodubelle during their excavation work.
According to scholars the unearthed stone axe belong to the period of stone age around 3000 BC. Only the front portion of the axe was found during the excavation. The same is rubbed and made nice. The axe is made of Dolerite rock and measures seven cm in width, nine cm in length and has a circumference of 19 cm.
The discoverers have also said that they have found a cave grave in this very place earlier, that belongs to the stone age.
