Mangaluru, Aug 24: An auto rickshaw driver who operated his three-wheeler at Haleangady in the taluk, ended his life by lying across the railway tracks and allowing himself to be crushed by a train. The incident happened on Friday, August 23.
The person who committed suicide in this way was Naveenprasad Karkada (48), a resident of Koluvail. He parked his auto rickshaw near the bridge connecting Haleangady and Chelairu and ended his life in the railway tracks near Koppal.
Karkada's wife had passed away five years back. He was depressed since then. Karkada's brother, Sampath, said in a complaint filed with the Mulky police that Naveenprasad could not recover from the grief of the death of his wife and this could have led him to opt to take away his life.
The deceased is survived by two sons.
