Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 24: Pivovar Chric, a firm that produces beer in the Czech Republic, has taken a decision to stop the sale of a beer which carries the picture of Mahatma Gandhi on its bottle after a Kerala-based NGO raised concern over the matter.
Mahatma India Pale Ale brand of beer was sold by Pivovar Chric firm, which had the picture of Mahatma Gandhi with the Indian tricolour in the background.
Mahatma Gandhi National Foundation, a Kerala-based NGO wrote both the governments of India as well as that of Czech Republic and India urging to withdraw the sale of this beer as it depicts the father of the nation of India in a bad sense.
Minal Dostal, the commercial economic counsellor of the Embassy of Czech Republic in India has communicated to Eby J Jose, chairman of Mahatma Gandhi Foundation, through an email that the said company has informed that they will stop using the picture of Mahatma Gandhi on the beer can from August 31.
In a similar case that occurred recently, an Israeli firm that was using the photo of Mahatma Gandhi on its beer bottles also apologized as a concern was raised by Mahatma Gandhi National foundation on the issue.
