Udupi, Aug 22: “There is no contribution greater than making running water walk, walking water crawl and ground to absorb crawling water. Ground water is reserve water that does not belong to us. If we snatch what is not ours, life becomes difficult by changes in weather like what has happened now,” said ground water researcher, MIT’s Professor Balakrishna Muddodi.

He delivered a lecture on preservation of ground water during the inauguration of ‘Chintana Forum’ held at Fernandes compound, Kurkal, Subhashnagar on August 18.

“More than sixteen thousand trees are slashed on both sides of national highways. The ground water develops through roots of trees and water source will be destroyed with the destruction of trees. Meanwhile, more than a thousand lakes and wells are closed in the name of development. In these circumstances, everybody who does not pay attention to preserve water becomes guilty and the future generation will not forgive us,” said professor Balakrishna Muddodi.

Retired headmaster Mohandas R Shetty watered a sapling and inaugurated the new organization ‘Chintana Vedike’. Thinker Rayan Mathias presided over the programme. Chintana Vedike convener Rayan Fernandes was present. Rama Divana gave an introduction.
