Mangaluru: Accused dies while in judicial custody for questioning

Mangaluru, Aug 20: An accused in a case, who was sent to Dakshina Kannada prison during late night on Monday, died there on Tuesday afternoon after falling sick. 

H M Raju(24), from Beltangady, is the deceased person. 

Raju was absconding without appearing in the court in connection with a case. Therefore, he was arrested after warrant was issued. He was sent to judicial custody after he was produced in the court. The entire legal process got over at 3.30 am on August 20.

He consumed food in the prison in the morning and told other prisoners that he was not feeling well. His condition became serious in the afternoon and he collapsed and died. He was taken to Wenlock Hospital where the doctors said that he was brought dead. It is said that he was sick before he was sent to prison.

    i am not keeping well did complete medical checkup in AJ hospital and KMC hospital again in Bombay at Kokilaben hospital & Hinduja hospital all reports are ok doctor also told me everything is fine my colony people are also telling me not to worry relax but still im feeling weak don't know why .Should i go to US for checkup?

    Young energetic boy. How he died of short time sickness. He is just 24.

    May be poor family boy. Family members also may not come forward to question.

    Life gone. Will not come back.

    in western countries, questioning of accused is done in the presence of a lawyer and on recording. We are still living in stone age.

    It is said that he was sick before he was sent to prison. If he was sick, he should have been taken to hospital, before placing him in jail. My relative in Mumbai Police told me once, that they have specialists among them who are beating the accused in such a way, even postmortem can not find out the reason for the death.

    Very mysterious death.This should be investigated.who knows whether he had consumed any poisonous material as he consumed his meal.?A thourough investigation,post martum can clear.may be he didnt want to disclose things or was threatend not to tell.Food he consumed in prison was consumed by others too.and they are still ok.why then only he?some strange death.

    Policemen should be suspended and a magisterial investigation should be ordered for any 'Custodial Death' including this one...be it a Hindu, Muslin, Christian...does not matter...
