Bengaluru, Aug 16: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dinesh Gundu Rao, said that the central government has been following policies of autocracy by suppressing opposition parties which speak against it. He was speaking after unfurling the tricolour at the KPCC office on the occasion of the 73rd Independence Day celebrations organized by the state Congress on Thursday, August 15.
"The union government has been suppressing everything and everybody. It is indulging in efforts to gag the freedom of expression. It is spreading an environment of enmity and fear in the country. Criticism and comments of the people are being crushed," he alleged.
Rao said that the BJP took over control of the central government after rising to power on the basis of communal policies. "It has been banking on emotional issues. It has been spearheading politics based on false documents. Autocracy is getting deep-rooted. Investigating agencies and autonomous bodies are being blatantly misused by the union government. If the nation moves in the wrong direction, hundreds of complications will crop up. This might destroy the unity and multi-cultural fabric of the country," he added.
He noted that Karnataka has become a victim of unforeseen floods and asked the union and state governments to rush to the help of the affected people.
