Udupi, Aug 16: “Everyone will know the importance of Independence Day only if they have the knowledge of the situation prevailing before India got Independence and also the struggle that was fought to achieve it,” said former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.
Sorake was speaking after hoisting the tricolor on the occasion of Independence Day at the Service Bus Stand of the city.
Sorake further said, “Today the Personal freedom is being hurt by the central government. Democracy has become just a beautiful concept now. People are struggling to get fundamental infrastructure. It is the need of the hour to eradicate unemployment, inadequate educational system and the scarcity of social justice. The young generation has to be made ready to look at the future, forgetting the past. Though the country has got Independence 72 years ago, the people of the country are following western culture, letting go their indigenous traditions. Our constitution has also identified and diversity of our country and recognized it.”
Former MLA U R Sabhapati said, “The dream of Independent India that our ancestors saw has turned upside down today. If this country has to progress and if all have to live in harmony, the love towards the country should increase among the younger generation. Moral values have to be instilled in children. All have to inculcate the ideals of those who gave up their lives for the country.”
