Udupi, Aug 16: “We have to respect other religions for peace to prevail in the society. We have to do away with the wrong thinking we have with other religions. The society will progress only if there is communal harmony in society,” said Janab Jamaluddin Hindi, assistant professor of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT).
Janab Hindi was speaking as the chief guest in the Bakrid Sauharda Koota organized under the leadership of Sauharda Samiti Udyavara in cooperation of people of all religions at the auditorium of St Francis Xavier church in Udyavar.
Janab Hindi further said, “Bakrid feast is an emblem of sacrifice and love. Instead of celebrating festivals ourselves, when we celebrate them with people of other religions, the wrong thinkings of that religion will go away. This increases our broad mindedness and also makes us aware of the shortcomings of each other. When festivals are celebrated in harmony, the doubts one has in the society will get decimated and the society gets progressed.”
Speaking on the occasion, Narendra Kumar Kota, lecturer of Viveka Girls’ high school Kota, said, “We should not have the mind of cutting like a scissor in our life. Instead we should be like the needle that binds the minds.”
Leslie Aroza, director of family commission of Udupi diocese, said, “We have to encourage our children to study religions, as we encourage them to study the subjects.”
The programme was presided over by Wilfred D’Souza, president of Samartha Samiti. Secretary Abid Ali welcomed the gathering. The vote of thanks was rendered by panchayat vice-president Riyaz Palli. The programme was compered by Pratap Kumar and Steevan Colaco.
There was a Daff presentation by Sirajil Huda Daff Committee Manjoor after the stage programme was over.
