Mangaluru: 73rd Independence Day, Feast of Assumption of Our Lady celebrated at Valencia church

Mangaluru, Aug 15: St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia celebrated the feast of Assumption of Our Lady and India's 73rd Independence Day at the church grounds after the morning mass. The programme was conducted by members of the ICYM unit.

Holy mass was celebrated by Fr James D'Souza vicar. The co-celebrants were Fr Joswin D'Souza assistant parish priest and Fr William Barrocas.

A meaningful homily was preached by Fr Joswin D'Souza on the virtues of Mary, her faith, our duty and rights toward our nation. The liturgy was conducted by ICYM members.

A flag hoisting ceremony was held after mass. The chief guest for the ceremony was Dr Vasanth Kumar Shetty administrator of Saanidhya Residential School and training centre for the mentally challenged, Mangaluru. After hoisting the flag, he addressed the gathering on how he has been closer to the church since his childhood days. He appreciated Mary, the mission of the Catholics and the selfless service they render to society. He also highlighted about the country and the tradition of India and said we are all one.



The National Anthem and patriotic song was sung by the ICYM members.

Fr James D'Souza, Fr Joswin D'Souza, Fr Arun Lobo resident priest, parish council vice president Anil Lobo and Lizzy Pinto secretary were also present.
