Panaji, Aug 15: Over 139 vehicles were reported to have registered in Puducherry to evade tax in Goa. Back in 2018, state directorate of transport issued a notice which asserted that outstation vehicles running in Goa for over one year must re-register in the state.
It was observed that several luxury cars were registered in Puducherry for the purpose of evading heavy tax. To prevent the evasion of tax, the vehicles were ordered to re-register in regional transport office (RTO) of the state.
The Vahan 4.0 software of the transport department consists of information pertaining to Goans who have registered their vehicles outside Goa. As per Sec 40 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, every owner of motor vehicle shall cause the vehicle to be registered by a registering authority in whose jurisdiction he has the residence or place of business where the vehicle is normally kept. Therefore, the state's report of vehicles registered having permanent address of Goa and temporary address of Puducherry is made available in the software.
