Bantwal, Jun 19: The body of a man that was partly decomposed was dug out by the policemen from near Kadumutt rivulet. It appears to be a pre-planned murder executed by a group of people.
The body has been identified to be that of Shekhar Bhandary (60), a resident of Salmara in Puttur, a mechanic working in Salethur, repairing pumpsets since the last 35 years. The body had been buried under the sand by the side of Kadumutt Bridge on Vittal-Salettur road. The place was concealed by spreading thorny bushes over it. Some people, who were walking by the place on Thursday June 18, smelt foul odour. After scouring the place, they made out the spot and poured water over it to remove the heap of sand. As parts of a human body emerged from under, they passed on the information to the policemen, it is learnt.
Shekhar was well known to the agriculturists of the taluk. Reportedly, he had enmity with some people because of his liquor addiction, resulting in the use of abusive language and street brawls.
Some say that he had got a hefty amount as share out of the sale proceeds of a family property. One of the theories is that someone known to him would have killed him to get hold of the money.
Vittal police are investigating.
