Panaji, Jun 18: The lone swine flu patient admitted in Goa’s health facility was discharged yesterday after his swab samples recorded negative for the virus, a top official stated.

“The 41 year old patient isolated at Primary Health Centre at Chicalim was discharged today after we got the report that his recent samples sent at NICD Delhi and NIV Delhi tested negative,” Dr Rajendra Tamba, state nodal officer for Swine Flu, told a press conference this evening.

He said that that was the only confirmed case of influenza A (H1N1) although the samples of five other people were sent for testing and they tested negative.

Dr Tamba said that the 41 year old patient had arrived in the country on June 3 and next day entered Goa. “He had traveled to Brussels, Belguim and arrived in India via London,” he added.

He was referred to state authorities on June 8 wherein his first test was positive. “Another test was conducted on June 10 which also confirmed his positive status,” Dr Tamba stated.

The patient was quarantined at state’s facility and was treated. “We took another sample on June 11 which was tested negative,” he added.

Goa was one amongst the first states to set up screening facility at its airport. “Initially, we used to scan even domestic passengers but after sometime narrowed down to international travelers,” Dr Tamba said.

He said that the other suspected swine flu patients included 43 year old male, 48 year old male, 36 year old male, 41 year old female and 10 year old female.
