Bengaluru, Aug 10: The torrential rains that have tormented Karnataka since the past week, have displaced several people. Over 24 people have reportedly died due to the impact of natural calamities.
On Saturday, the government Karnataka estimated the loss brought on by the rain to be over Rs 6,000 crore.
CM Yediyurappa, has called it the 'biggest calamity' in the last 45 years. The government has also sought Rs 3,000 crore from the Centre towards relief.
In a statement, Yediyurappa said, "We are planning to reconstruct houses that were damaged due to rains. Some of the villages have to be rebuilt completely. Rescue and relief work is being carried out by teams of personnel comprising NDRF, and the armed forces. Unfortunately, over 24 deaths have been reported in rain related incidents."
