Moodbidri, Aug 7: Heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds lashed the taluk on the night of Tuesday, August 6 causing widespread damage.

At least 50 trees, including arecanut, plantain, and coconut trees got uprooted in the town, Masthikatte, Biravu, Hosabettu and Iruvail. A house got partially damaged when a coconut tree fell on the tiled roof of the house.

More than five electricity poles also fell on the ground and blocked the road at some areas. Fortunately no causalities are reported so far.

Power supply was cut off as the trees fell on the electricity poles either taking the poles with them to the ground or cutting off the wires.
