Udupi, Aug 7: Udupi deputy commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati handed over an order from Election Commission with approval of compensation of Rs 15 lac as compensation to the wife of health department ambulance driver K Dinesh Ganiga who had died while on election duty during 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
K Dinesh Ganiga was assigned the duty for emergency medical services of police staff and paramilitary forces on duty in the strong room where voting machines were kept.
Dinesh Ganiga had died of cardiac arrest near Barkur government hospital on May 2 when he was returning home after duty.
The order of approval was handed over to Susheela, wife of late K Dinesh Ganiga in the DC office on Monday.
There is a provision for payment of compensation to the families of staff who die while on election duty. “The details of the family of K Dinesh Ganiga were obtained from the health department and tahsildar and were submitted to the election commission with necessary documents,” stated a release from district election officer and deputy commissioner.
