Kundapur, Aug 6: There is fear of floods in the state due to incessant rains. Reservoirs in Malnad region are filled up due to torrential rainfall. It has been raining heavily in the vicinity of Yethanakatte reservoir. While the maximum level of the reservoir is 563.88 meter, water reached 563.21 meter on Monday afternoon. If the flow of water to the reservoir continues, the level may reach danger mark and excess water may have to be let out for safety purposes, said executive engineer of Karnataka Electricity Corporation.
The fear of floods in the banks of the reservoir and Varahi and Haladi riverside looms large if the excess water is let out. Residents near the banks and those who are likely to be affected have been asked to shift to safe places with their animals and valuables.
