Serra Bengaluru conducts annual scripture quiz competition

Bengaluru, Aug 5: Carmel Convent Girls High School, Bengaluru, and St Charles High School of Lingarajapuram were the first prize winners in the SSLC Group and ICSE Group in the 15th annual scripture quiz competition 2019 conducted by Serra Club Bengaluru.

Archbishop of Bengaluru Dr Peter Machado and Archbishop Emeritus Most Rev Dr Bernard Moras graced the occasion. Catholic Club President Ricky Patel distributed the prizes to the winners in the competition held at the Catholic Club of Bengaluru on Saturday.

The Catholic Club and Asian Trading Company are co-sponsors of the annual scripture quiz contest.

The Carmel Convent Girls High School team, which won the first prize in the SSLC Group comprised of Tanisha Mary, Anne Ephzibah Jyoti and Cynthia D, while St Charles High School team in the ICSE Group consisted of Adelyn Sarina, Jessa Mariya Joe and Krithika R.

The second place in the SSLC group was won by the St Euphrasia Girls High School team and Sacred Heart Girls High School team bagged the third place.

The second and third prizes in the ICSE Group was won by St Charles High School, Lingarajapuruam and Sacred Heart Girls High School respectively.

A total of 60 reams from English Medium SSLC and ICSE Catholic Schools participated in the annual quiz contest. The contest included a written elimination round for both the sections and each section had separate semi-final and final rounds. Eight teams took part in the final contest with direct answer rounds, single answer questions to those opting to answer first, and play it wise and rapid fire rounds to choose the winner.

Quiz Master Bobbin John conducted the final rounds. This year’s study portion for the scripture quiz was The Gospel according St Matthew, Letters of Paul to the Romans and the First and Second Letters of Paul to Timothy as per NRSV editions.

The Serra Club of Bengaluru comprises of a group of lay Catholics who promote, foster and encourage vocations to the Priesthood and Consecrated life. The Serrans shared with the participants how this International movement began in America and spread worldwide. FrJoy D’Souza and Sr Jessie gave their testimonies, sharing their experiences of answering God’s call.

Serra President Jennifer Francis, welcomed. Carol Beck compered the entire programme. Evelyn Coutto proposed a vote of thanks.
