Mangaluru, Aug 3: “A poet should have an eye of ‘amazement’ and an imagination of a ‘little child’ to write children’s poems. If not, any literature meant for children would not reach the children,” informed veteran poet Subraya Chokkady here on Saturday, August 3.

He was addressing the gathering at a programme ‘Makkala Kavya – Hosa Dani’ organised jointly by Dharwad based ‘Makkala Sahityasaktara Geleyara Balaga’ and Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education at the auditorium of Sandesha Foundation in Bajjodi.

Chokkady said, “Those who write children’s poems should become a child and experience the feelings of children before writing a poem. Then only a nice and attractive poem evolves by a poet. I have written many poems meant for children as I was a teacher for 39 years. However, I did not publish it. The poems written by a poet should reach the children and he should get proper feedback,” he said.

Lauding the poems of poet Radhesh Tholpady Chokkady said, “The poems of Tholpady have all qualities which need to bloom the innocent minds of children in a right way. Measures should be taken by the concerned people to reach it to the entire state.”

Meanwhile, children’s poet Radhesh Tholpady read many poems on the occasion which received a good response from the audience. Tholpady was felicitated on the same occasion.

Retired director of All India Radio (AIR) Mysuru Anand Patil, Sandesha College Principal Fr Jayaprakash D’Souza among others were present.
