Mangaluru: Breastfeeding awareness programme held at Bajpe

Mangaluru, Aug 2: The Father Muller Salvadore Monteiro Rural Training (FMSMRTC) Center at Bajpe inaugurated the breast feeding awareness programme on Thursday, August 1, at the Koncharu Anganwadi center of Bajpe village.

Dr Jessy Maria D’Souza, chief medical officer, FMSMRTC, inaugurated the programme. She enlightened the gathering on the importance of breast feeding. She also emphasized the importance of cleanliness post partum and the importance of the bonding between the mother and child. She also created awareness on prevention and precautions for Dengue and the treatment modalities available. The chief guest for the programme was the gram panchayat member, Ayesha who spoke on the significance of mother’s milk to the growth of the child and as an important initiative taken by the government to create such awareness. She also spoke regarding the nutritional significance of mother’s milk, which provides balanced nutrition to the child. “Mother’s milk has properties of disease prevention and the importance of breast feeding only for the first six months to the child,” she said.

Isabella D’Souza compered the programme. ASHA worker, Nalini and Anganwadi worker, Angawadi assistant, Suma, Stree Sangha members, Delson, community health worker and the villagers were present.
