Hubballi: Congress condemns cancellation of Tipu Jayanti

Hubballi, Jul 31: Pro and anti opinions are expressed on the cancellation of Tipu Jayanti by the BJP government led by chief minister Yediyurappa. If BJP has welcomed the decision, Congress has objected the same.
A protest was held against cancellation of the Tipu Jayanti under the joint auspices of Dharwad Mahanagar district Congress committee and Dharwad Rural district Congress committee.
Speaking on the occasion, Altaf Hallura, president of Hubballi-Dharwad Mahanagar district Congress committee said, "BJP government has cancelled the celebration of Tipu Jayanti for the only reason that Tipu Sultan was a Muslim. Tipu was a patriot, who strived for the development of the then Mysore state and gave a good administration. The schemes brought about by him are alive even today. The decision of the BJP government in cancelling the Jayanti of such a great personality is not right."
