Udupi, Jul 31: “Nobody can deny that the last Siddaramaiah led government has won the hearts of people with corruption free pro people schemes. Therefore, Congress could garner more votes than BJP in the last elections, but, they won fewer seats and were deprived of power,” said Basavaraja Raya Reddy, minister and convener of the committee formed to find the reason for Congress not obtaining expected results in last the Lok Sabha elections.

He addressed a meeting of district executive committee, block committee presidents and different unit presidents held at Congress bhavan here.

KPCC vice president V R Sudarshan said that undivided Dakshina Kannada district has given several leaders to the country. “Congress which has a tradition has nationalism and social responsibility. So it had to unite likeminded parties and contest last Lok Sabha elections. BJP is misleading people by luring and false promises. Though Congress is deprived of power, there are instances of it coming back to power. BJP is repeatedly trying to topple democratic process. The incidents in Karnataka are proof for them. BJP has come to power by buying MLAs from the coalition government by the wrong path. As Congress has activists at base level we should indulge in making the party strong,” he said.

Former MP Dhruvanarayanan said that the government at the center has not done even a single people friendly programme. “It has only implemented the schemes started by the previous UPA government. The economic condition has worsened. Unemployment and farmers' problems are rampant. It is unfortunate that BJP is ruling the country making use of the weaknesses of people,” he said.

Udupi district congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor welcomed the gathering. KPCC vice president Veer Kumar Patil, former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA U R Sabhapathi, P V Mohan, Veronica Corneleo, Geetha Vagle, Kishan Hegde Kolkebail, Bhujanga Shetty, B Hirianna, Malyadi Shivarama Shetty, Bhasker Rao Kidiyoor, Prakhyath Shetty, Navinchandra Shetty, Nithyananda Shetty, Shekar Madival, Madan Kumar, Manjunath Poojary, Navinchandra Suvarna, Sathish Amin Padukere, H Hariprasad Shetty, Pradeep Kumar Shetty, Ismael Atrady. Shabbir Ahmed, Shashidhar Elloor, Vishwas Ameen, Ganesh Kotian, Sudhaker Kotian, Keerthi Shetty, Kiran Kumar Udyavar, Yathish Karkera, Udyavar Nagesh Kumar, Janardhan Bhandarkar and Habib Ali were present.
