Puttur: Youth escapes from de-addiction camp - Crushed by train

Puttur, Jul 31: An unmarried youth who escaped from a liquor de-addiction camp organized at Pajipalla at Bellare, died on the night of Monday after a train hit him. The victim happens to be Vasant D (32), son of Kepu Mugera from Kalmadka House in Kalmadka village, Sullia taluk.

It is said that Vasant was depressed. The accident occurred in the railway tracks at Nehru Nagar here. He was heavily dependent on liquor and he was admitted into the said addiction centre as his life would otherwise have become unbearable. He however, escaped from the camp after which he acted like having become mentally unstable and roamed around in the town, the police said.

He died on Monday night or early hours of Tuesday. It could be a case of suicide or a train would have knocked him down when he was roaming near the tracks, it is suspected.

Initially it was registered as unrecognized body but later the identity was established. The railway police have registered the case.
