Karkala: Annual celebration of proclamation and dedication of Minor Basilica Attur on Aug 1

Karkala, Jul 30: Third annual day celebration of the proclamation and dedication of St Lawrence Minor Basilica Attur will be held on August 1.

St Lawrence Shrine Attur was declared as minor Basilica on August 1, 2016. In remembrance of proclamation and dedication of Minor Basilica, a grand Eucharistic celebration will be headed by Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop, diocese of Udupi on August 1 at 11 am with the theme ‘Let us adopt the path of St Lawrence’. From the same day, nine-day novena prior to the titular feast will also begin.

The nine-day novena prayers will be offered by various priests from diocese of Udupi and Mangaluru. On August 10 the titular feast of St Lawrence will be celebrated. Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, bishop emeritus, diocese of Mangaluru will be preside over the grand Eucharistic celebration on August 10.



Since recent years, under the able leadership of Fr George D’Souza, rector, many developmental activities have been carried out at the Basilica for the convenience of the devotees. With the aim to make dust free campus at the Basilica Before the 2020 annual feast, the entire ground will be laid with special stone.

During the novena days, confessions will be held from 9.30 am, rosary at 10.10 am, adoration at 10.30 am and novena Mass at 11 am.
