Udupi, Jul 30: The government fixed the salary of Rs 13,200 to personnel who work in more than 6000 libraries under various gram panchayats. Later, their working hours were reduced and full salary was not paid. Due to this the librarians are finding it difficult to make ends meet.
A month ago, librarian of Chikkaballapur district Revanna Kumar tried to commit suicide by slitting his throat on the third floor of Vidhana Soudha. This incident bears witness to the hardship the librarians are facing. So MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary met chief minister Yediyurappa at the Vidhana Soudha and submitted an appeal to grant the minimum salary of Rs 13,200 to the librarians.
The chief minister, who listened to the appeal of Kota Srinivas Poojary patiently, has directed the secretary of the government to give the minimum salary of Rs 13,200 to the librarians working in government libraries throughout the state with immediate effect. Kota Srinivas Poojary said that in a week or so the official order for the revision of salary of the librarians may be sent by the concerned official.
