Udupi, Jul 29: Students of Don Bosco School Shirva on July 27 enjoyed a fruitful day. Vijay Deeraj, a farmer, with an aim of enlightening students about agricultural activities organized ‘A Day in Field’ programme for the students.
Addressing the gathering, Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA, said, “One who is working in agriculture does not need any type of exercise or gym. Working in fields is a great exercise. Farmers are always healthy.”
Fr Mahesh D’Souza, principal, Don Bosco School, Shirva said, “This programme should be a lesson for all students. Vijay has taken keen interest in arranging this programme. Through this programme, all students should understand the difficulties of a farmer.”
Speaking to Daijiworld.com about his initiative, Vijay Deeraj said, “I am a farmer. I did not welcome the children here to become farmers. My intention is to teach the young generation about farming. Children should know the difficulties a farmer goes through in agricultural field.”
Scouts and Guides of Don Bosco School learned about the process of farming. They even planted paddy saplings in an acre of land.
Delicious rural food was served to the students. Students spent the day playing in stream and doing agricultural activities. Villagers and locals were present.
