Mangaluru, Jul 28: Senior Tulu Litterateur of 'Mokeda Singari' fame and former president of Tulu Sahitya Academy Sitarama Kulal died on Sunday, July 28.
Sitarama Kulal had written more than 25 evergreen songs like 'Mokeda Singari Untude Vayyari Yaan Mule Katondulle Marathe Popana', 'Pakkilu Mooji Onje Goodudu Badukondunduge', 'Parashuramana Kodalig Puttina Tulunad', 'Brahmana Baravau Majande Ponda', 'Appe Manas Bangara Amma Tenas Singara', and 'Dingiri Mama Dingiri Mama Podid Parada' for 11 Tulu movies.
Sitarama Kulal, who was a resident of Bejai in the city, had entered the drama stage through the Kannada play 'Daasi Putra'.
Sitarama Kulal, who served the Tulu literary field for more than 45 years, did not take any fee or royalty for any of the songs, acting or drama that he wrote or acted. This in itself is the witness to his abundant love for the Tulu art and literature.
Sitarama Kulal was bestowed with numerous titles like 'Tulu Ratna', 'Permeda Tuluve', 'Tulu Siri', 'Tulu Sahitya Ratnakara' and 'Taulava Prashasti'. In addition, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy honoured him with the honourary award.
