New Jersey, Jul 27: When you are away from home, you miss your native especially the art, culture, language and other traditions. There are several associations worldwide who spread Mangalurean tradition and culture in spite of being thousands of miles away.
MCA- Mangalorean Catholic Association of East Coast, started 10 years back, now stands-out among many global Mangalurean associations, all set to celebrate the success of 10 glorious years spent as one community, one culture by promoting Konkani language, tradition and Mangalurean culture.
Mark Mendonca, one of the co-founders of MCA-EC says, "Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success is a famous saying of Henry Ford. About 10 years back, the Mangalureans living in New York Area of the United States, came together and formed a socio-cultural organization (Mangalorean Catholic Association EC Inc. - MCA-EC) which quickly morphed into a US government recognized [501(C)(3)] non-profit organization for charity and education. With a large base of active members spread across the East Cost of USA, MCA-EC is considered as the most vibrant organization attracting about 400 members for each of its 3 flagship events (Christmas Gala, Summer Picnic and Monthi Fest) every year. Some of these events are featured in the TV Asia programme, Daijiworld, and other media."
In alignment with its mission of “Connecting People and Promoting Culture”, MCA-EC has been able to connect people globally and promote the rich Mangalurean culture among the new generation living in USA. It has been performing charity events (Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Soup Kitchen, Financial Assistance, For the Kids by the Kids etc) and educational programmes (Youth Leadership, Empower Me Series, Konkani Classes etc) throughout the year. Furthermore, MCA-EC has contributed thousands of dollars of its proceeds to the other charity organization. Through its transformation journey, MCA-EC has helped Mangalureans to Accelerate Growth Integrating Culture (MAGIC).
