Udupi, Jul 27: Adani foundation, a subsidiary of UPCL owned by Adanis, planted saplings in Belapu gram panchayat premises and distributed flowering plants to villagers as part of Vanamahotsava programme today. Belapu gram panchayat president Dr Devi Prasad Shetty and UPCL company president and executive director Kishore Alva jointly distributed the saplings.
Panchayat president Dr Devi Prasad Shetty said that Adani group has been distributing good quality saplings for the last five years under gram panchayat slogan ‘a child for a house and a sapling for a child’ and welcomed the efforts of Adani company for environment protection. “Belapu village is known as a model village in Asia. Maintaining cleanliness is the responsibility of all.”
Kishore Alva of Adani company said that there were activities towards basic facilities together with environment protection in the seven nearby gram panchayats. “Adani company has set aside Rs 25 lac for forest programme under its CSR programme planting nearly four lac saplings. More than 25,000 saplings are being distributed in nearby villages every year. Saplings of coconut, areca, mango, jackfruit, teak and such other saplings are being distributed,” he said.
Belapu gram panchayat vice president Shobha Bhat, taluk panchayat members U C Shekhabba, panchayat members Dinesh Poojary, Suresh Devadiga, Anita Ananda, Noor Jehan, Vijayalaxmi Devadiga, Karunaker Shetty, Usha Vasu, Sharath Kumar, farmer Edwin Mendonca, Adani UPCL company AGM Girish Navada, Ravi R Jere, Adani foundation’s staff Vinith Anchan, Anupam Poojary and Sukesh Suvarna were present.
