Karkala, Jul 27: Villagers in Belman protested against stinking sewage from Bright Flexi international company flowing in roadside drains with possibilities of spreading infectious diseases in the area.
The villagers had submitted a memorandum to company officials on Thursday to set right the situation. They expressed anguish that the water still flows on roadside.
“Worms can be seen in the water causing problems to the people. The water joins fertile land, public wells and lakes causing fear of epidemics,” they said.
Padubidri police officials, Karkal tahsildar Purandar and chief executive Dr Major Harsha spoke to the company officials and conducted inspection of affected area. They warned of legal action against the company if the problem is not solved in next 15 days. The company officials submitted a request to tahsildar and chief executive requesting for 15 days to set right the problem.
People in more than 150 houses behind the company are living in fear of epidemic and the stinking water accumulates in the vacant place behind the company. Villagers expressed anguish that such water welcomes Dengue and Malaria.
Villagers alleged that the company banned entry of panchayat officials, president, members and health department officials in the company premises.
Karkal tahsildar Purandar, chief executive Dr Major Harsha, Padubidri police officer Suresh, Inna panchayat development officer Nagaraj, Inna gram panchayat vice president Kusha R Moolya, members Deepak Kotian, Allen D’ Souza, village accountant Ravishanker, Nitte village accountant Anand and others were present.
