Porvorim: NCP legislator Alemao asks for Marathi to Konkani translator in assembly

Porvorim, Jul 27: Benaulim NCP legislator Churchill Alemao in the house of 40 members asked to provide a translator when MLA Ramakrishna Dharalikar raised a few questions in Marathi. Alemao is one of the MLAs who speaks in Konkani in the House.

Chief minister Pramod Sawant intervened and requested speaker Rajesh to appoint a translator before the next session of the assembly.

In the 80s when the language agitation was at its height, MGP had sided with supporters of Marathi. The MGP MLAs spoke only in Marathi in the 90s. However, the party has not raked up the language issue in the recent years.
