Bengaluru, Jul 27: With the crumbling of the coalition government in the state, the parties have exchanged their roles. The Congress is in the opposition now along with its coalition partner, the JD(S).
Siddaramaiah will be the leader of the opposition for the present till a final decision is taken. There has been a suggestion to continue Siddaramaiah as the leader of the Congress legislature party and choose another MLA as the leader of the opposition.
However, the assembly session is being convened on Monday to enable Yediyurappa to prove his majority. On this occasion, the all-important finance bill would be moved and adopted. As such, the party leadership has decided to retain Siddaramaiah as the leader of the opposition instead of hurriedly searching for an alternative, party sources said.
