Educators’ meet of BES Mangaluru province held

Mangaluru, Jul 27: Bethany Educational Society Mangaluru province organized Educators meet of all the correspondents/heads of Educational Institutes and Wardens of the Hostel and all the Sisters involved in Educational ministry in the Province.

As many as 63 sisters participated in the same. Sr Cicilia Mendonca BS, the corporate manager and provincial superior of Mangaluru province inaugurated the educators’ meet and presented the keynote address. She appreciated the dedicated committed services of the BES educators amidst the challenges of times. Stressing on the vision of BES, she called on the sisters to promote the glory of God by the holiness of its members in order to proclaim the values of Christ in personal life witness. “In the competitive world we are to strive towards excellence and offer to the students value based education in an attractive and vital way,” she said.

Sr Dr Sahana BS, the provincial councilor of Bengaluru Province dealt elaborately on the topic ‘as educators how are to function as heads of institutes in fulfilling roles are care givers, model, mentor, and conscience builders’.

“As leaders in the field of education, one has to love the profession, be effective and energetic. Leaders need to be ambitious and adapt new methods of teaching. One has to learn to do things differently. They need to be enthusiastic and respectful. One needs to become smart and not enough to use smart boards in teaching. Good leaders are expected to be an exemplary through one’s loyalty, sense of dedication to duty, integrity of character and transparency and accountability,” she said.

Speaking on the various aspects of the theme, she said, “At the heart of the person, one is prompted to do good and to avoid evil. It also judges particular choices, approving those that are good and denouncing those that are evil. It bears witness to the authority of truth in reference to the supreme Good to which the human person is drawn, and it welcomes the commandments. When one listens to the conscience, the prudent person can hear God speaking,” she said.

“While defining the character, she stated, “Count on me to be honest and reliable. I aim to make good choices. I am trust worthy and even in difficulty I do the right thing.” Finally she concluded the session by placing before the participants the 7 sins of the world as per Mahatma Gandhi namely Wealth without conscience, pleasure without morality, science without humanity, worship without sacrifice, politics without principles and knowledge without character.

The resource person called on the participants to live loyally, consistently and awake ones conscience as per the promptings of the spirit. “As educators we have a responsibility to train our students in forming right conscience,” she said.

Sr Mariola BS, province coordinator for Education moderated the plan of action in the light of the day’s input session and the centenary projects of Bethany Congregation. Few priorities of BES were highlighted for implementation. It was a great joy to plan together for the welfare of the beneficiaries of BES. Sr Vidya Pinto BS the Headmistress of St Raymond’s High School Vamanjoor, welcomed the gathering. Sr Nisha BS, headmistress of Maryvale Higher Primary School, Kinnigoli compered the programme. Sr Paulette rendered vote of thanks. The programme was well appreciated by the participants
as it was well planned and organized at the mini hall of St Raymond’s Degree College, Vamanjoor.
