Udupi, Jul 26: 'Shreshta', the cabinet installation ceremony of newly elected office bearers of Udupi district Lions Club 317C for the year 2019-20 was organized in association with International Association of Lions Clubs at Smt Ammanni Ramanna Shetty auditorium in the city on Thursday, July 25.
Renowned businessman, Lion V G Shetty PMJF has been elected as the District Governor for the lionistic year 2019-20. Ln N M Hegde Belman is elected as the first deputy district governor and Ln Vishwanath Shetty is elected as the second deputy district governor.
The installation ceremony was inaugurated by the first lady of the district Ln Vilasa Shetty by lighting the lamp. She was accompanied by district governor Ln V G Shetty, immediate past governor Thallur Shivaram Shetty and chief guest Ln Barry J Palmer, past international president, Ln Vijay Kumar Raju Vegesna, international director 2016-18, trustee LICF, Ln V V Krishna Reddy, international director 2010-12 and other cabinet members.
Lion V G Shetty, District Governor has taken the charge as district governor from July 1. Addressing the gathering he said, “When there is clarity in thoughts, purity in mind, sanctity in heart, one can be achieve whatever they want to. That is how the title name ‘Shreshta’ was conceived in my mind. Achievement as a team, excellence and building leadership are my ambitions.”
He thanked mentor and team members who have supported him throughout out to run the club smoothly in this year.
V G Shetty said, “When a man in the position is equally important what legacy he will leave behind. One should understand that when he is associated with holistic association like Lions, which serves humanity. We are the brand leaders in humanitarian service. We want to remain this same.
“There is poverty, suffering, difficulties, hunger, illiteracy and shortage of help to under privileged students. Let us extend helping hand in eradicating these evils from society is our next vision. The lions stand
on three important pillars namely members, leadership and service.
“My first priority is community service and I personally believe in that. My life, purpose and existence are providing community service as much as I can. Lions international has many programmes and vision like awareness on diabetes, relieving hunger, environment protection and childhood cancer.
“There is so much to accomplish with more commitment and determination. Let us concentrate more on community service. The society should respect us as a soldier, who is safeguarding the border of our country.”
Leo Fouzan Akram, Leo district president said, “We have taken up more new initiatives for the year. I have got great opportunity to work in service-oriented association. In order to achieve our goal, we will work hard. We should see the problems of society and work accordingly. We are planning to open new Leo clubs in Colleges and education institutions.” He urged the support from his team members.
Installation officer Ln Vijay Kumar administered oath to all the cabinet members. Ln Barry J Palmer, past international president presented gavel to new club presidents and plaques to the new Leo members.
On the occasion, the club governor distributed 25 water purifiers to the schools and 50 sewing machines for beneficiaries symbolically.
The installation ceremony began with invocation rendered by Thilaka Rao. Ln Prakashchandra brought national flag on dais.
Ln Seetharam H T, chairman multiple council 317 C, Ln K Vamshidhar Babu, international director, endorsee, Ln Ananth K Shetty, treasurer, Host club president Ln Subrahmanya Sherigar, secretary Ln Veena Jeevan Shetty, treasurer Ln Ananth K Shetty and other cabinet members were present.
Ln Manohar S Shetty, chairman of the cabinet committee extended the welcome and Ln Dr K Madhusudhan Hegde, PDG, secretary rendered vote of thanks.
Ln Vincent Alva and Ln Indira Hegde compered the programme.
Apart from this, the Lions Clubs are working with the motto, ’More hands Better service'. This year, it started 10 new clubs in various places. This year we have planned for service activities in the name of ‘Shreshta’, in which S stands for Sight Conservation, H for Home for Homeless, R for Relieving hunger, E for Environment, S for Support for Rural education, H for helping needy, T for Team building and A for Awareness of Diabetes. Lion club International major emphasis is on bringing younger generation to the main stream of Lionism.
