Kundapur, Jul 24: “Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will visit Kollur Mookambika temple on July 26,” stated chief temple executive Halappa in a press release. He stated that the entry to devotees will be banned from 9 am on July 26 till 2.30 pm that day.
Wickremesinghe who was elected for the first time from Biyagama constituency in 1977 was the Sri Lankan prime minister from 1993 to 1994 and 2001 to 2004. He was elected party leader during presidential campaign in 1994 after the murder of Gamini Disanayaka. President Maitripala Sirisena who defeated President Mahinda Rajapakshe in the presidential elections during 2015 appointed Wickremesinghe as the prime minister on January 8, 2015.
Wickremesinghe won 106 seats in the coalition, United National front for good governance in the parliamentary elections in 2015. He was elected prime minister despite scarcity of majority. President Maitripala Sirisena removed Wickremesinghe by appointing former president Mahinda Rajapakshe as the prime minister on October 26, 2018. It caused a constitutional crisis which got over after the appointment of Wickremesinghe as the prime minister. His proposed visit to the Kollur temple has gained importance.
