Udupi: Cop Santhosh Shetty accused in cattle trafficking, attempts suicide

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (EP)

Udupi, Jul 24: Coastal Security Police (CSP) staff Santhosh Shetty, who was arrested for allegedly helping illegal cattle traffickers, attempted suicide.

Kota police station inspector, Nityananda Gowda, upon getting information about illegal cattle transportation, had seized a lorry carrying cattle and a car that was escorting it, within Kota police station limits on July 12. Four suspects had been arrested in this connection.

The startling revelation that four policemen were working hand in glove with the cattle traffickers in return for money in the district had come to light during the questioning of the arrested persons. The district superintendent of police, who took the information seriously, got the two policemen arrested immediately.

Santhosh Shetty was among those arrested. The court granted bail to him yesterday. He tried to commit suicide at his residence at Adi Udupi at about 1.40 pm on Tuesday July 23 by consuming tablets.

His wife who noticed that Santhosh did not come out of the room even after a long time went to wake him up. As she realized that he had consumed tablets, she got her husband admitted into Manipal hospital with the help of local people. Police sources said that he is out of danger.

Best is legalize the slaughtering. But take action against stealing of animals. One who consume beef let them do legally.Otherwise the same situation as today will continue,,many innocent people too are hacked to death or illegal handle will take upper hand, many problems will arise .Police too are involved in illegal transport and later it happens just as this police has done.

If you ban anything it will be misused and open up illegal markets. If you don't have proper authorities to enforce the ban then it will thrive. This has been a legal industry for centuries why lose all the revenue obtained by tax etc. and spend more money to enforce the ban. The government should re view the whole beef market again. Chalk the pros and cons scientifically, instead of blindly allowing faith to dictate.

Legalize beef consumption, open government controlled slaughter houses, allow farmers to sell their old cows to butchers, so that they can get some money to buy new calves, allow import of beef to cater to those who consume beef. Allow breeding of cows for the beef industry and bring in stringent laws against cow theft, because stealing of cows from their owners is evil and punishment should be exemplary. Once this is done all this cow theft will stop. People have been consuming beef for ages, but stealing of cows was not rampant as it is now. I know of neighbours of letting their cows gaze openly in and around Mangalore and all the cattle used to return home in the evenings on their own and we never heard of any cattle being stolen. These days, cattle thieves enter homes and steal cattle and nothing is being done to stop them. We hear of arrests but never hear about punishments. As I said the punishment should be severe and should be announced so as to deter potential cow thieves.

Certain percentage of Hindus consume beef and majority of Hindus not bothered about the cow slaughter. Lynching and other dramas are not because they really want to stop cow slaughter. if at all they really love cow, then instead of beating small traders, they will target the Big players. Unfortunately this is not happening. Export is Blooming Day by day and no one is bothered about the export. In many parts of the countries BD goons themselves give protection to cow traders for transporting cows, against money.

Beef is consumed by all the religions in India.
Some Hindus eat it slowly and silently. others eat it openly.
Illegal cattle trafficking has to be stopped.
Poor farmers who sell their old cows to the butchers should be caught and punished as well.
This trade will lead to Mob lynching which is like eating a plate of "PANIPURI" under MODI led RSS/BJP government.

Consuming Beef is personal choice, no one should poke their nose in it.
Forcing people to chant "Jai sree RAM" is illegal and should be banned.

Legalize cow meat and see the result.
It's totally a myth, to say stealing is the only reason behind the confinement of beef consumption but rather it is due to Vote bank politics else farmers are ready to sell outdated cattle whole heatedly which could also steady their financial condition.
