Bengaluru: Desire for children results in death of husband, wife's hospitalisation

Bengaluru, Jul 23: A couple from Nelamangala in the rural district here, who had no issues, were hoping to raise children someday. After going through an advertisement that promised children for couple that have failed to get their offspring, the couple had bought medicines by paying exorbitant price.

Shashidhar (40) from Arashinakunte village breathed his last. His wife, Gangamma (37), fell seriously ill. She is being treated in a private hospital here. The couple had married 12 years back and were not blessed with children so far.

The couple had tried everything including visiting various temples and getting treated at various places including by practitioner of native medicine. But all these had gone wrong. On Monday, they bought tablets from a person who was moving about in a car bearing Gujarat registration number with big advertisement about miraculous tablets which have gifted children to numerous couples, on Monday. The cost of tablets was fixed at Rs 25,000 and the couple had bought them by paying advance amount of Rs 2,000. Both the wife and husband consumed the tablets immediately. Thereafter both of them suffered from severe dysentery. Shashidhar breathed his last before he could be admitted into hospital.

A case in this connection was registered in Nelamangala town police station.
