Udupi, Jul 23: As per the directions of the National Institution for Transforming India, New Delhi, ‘Reading Month’ at Karkala library branch was inaugurated. The ‘Reading Month’ aims at cultivating reading habits in children of primary schools to college students.
Addressing the gathering, Subhadh Rao, member Udupi district main library said, “Libraries are equivalent to temples. It provides knowledge along with entertainment through novels, story books and others. Here in Karkala library there is huge collection of books. Students should make good use of these books.”
Speaking on the occasion, Savithri Manohar Rao, renowned writer said, “Libraries are temples of Goddess Saraswathi. A book lover surely visits library often. They acquire knowledge and tries to be a good person in society. Students should read as many books as possible and try to follow the principles.”
Addressing the students Nalini G I, chief librarian Udupi district library said, “Students and general public should visit libraries in large number. They should visit library on a regular basis and take membership.”
Vanitha, assistant librarian Karkala library, compered the programme. Various games were held for students.
