Mangaluru, Jul 23: Under the leadership of CPM, a protest was organized opposite Mescom head office in the city, to express anger of the people against electricity tariff hike, additional deposit, wrong calculations and such other problems.
The protesters went in a procession beginning from in front of the city corporation office. They congregated in front of the Mescom office. Addressing the protesters, CPM city (south) secretary, Suni Kumar Bajal, said that increasing power tariff has been rendering the lives of common people difficult. He accused Mescom of increasing deposit amount, which is nothing but daylight robbery, often. He also blamed Mescom for following accounting procedure that is difficult too understand.
CPM city (north) secretary, Dayanand Shetty, noted that a few decades back, increasing of power tariff in paise too was a big thing whereas now the tariff is being hiked twice every year steeply without advance intimation. He said that for some families, 25 percent of monthly expenses goes towards power bill.
Member of Dakshina Kannada CPM district secretariat, J Balakrishna Shetty, and member of the district committee, Yogeesh Japinamogaru, also addressed the protesters. A delegation later met the managing director of Mescom and handed over memorandum.
CPM district leaders like Jayanthi B Shetty, Santosh Bajal, city unit leaders, Babu Devadiga, Basheer Panjimogaru, Dinesh Shetty and others were present.
