Mangalore, Jun 4: The body of a man found at the goods shed of the railways at the old port in the city on the morning of June 3, has been identified to be that of Fayaz (27), a resident of Bajal Jalligudde. Preliminary investigations have indicated that he was killed relating to a dispute over the land owned by his wife's family.
Fayaz was murdered by his killers, by crushing his head and face with a boulder and hence, identifying the body posed a serious problem initially. By Wednesday evening, the policemen could establish his identity with the help of the visiting card of a lawyer recovered from his shirt pocket. The police personnel in the meanwhile have taken Mustafa alias Perne Mustafa, a relative of the wife of the deceased, for questioning.
Fayaz had married recently, and Fayaz is said to have interfered in the fight for land going on between the second and third wives of his father in law, on behalf of his wife. It is thought that Fayaz would have contacted lawyer Sirajuddin, whose visiting card was found on the spot, for taking the dispute to court. The policemen are expected to make more arrests in a day or two.
