Mangaluru, Jul 22: The incident in which the daughter living at Pachchanady drove out her mother from her house after quarrel broke out between the two in the early hours on Saturday has since been referred to senior citizens’ helpline.
The mother in question and her daughter live together in a house at Pacchanady here. The two had some differences between them and used to fight over these issues often. Allegedly, the young woman used to assault her aged other now and then.
At around 1 am on Saturday, the old woman was forcibly sent out of the house by the daughter. It was raining heavily then, and the woman had to spend the whole night outside. It is said that on Saturday morning, the neighbours took the daughter to task for this inhuman act, after which she allowed her mother to come inside.
Local citizens had brought this incident to the notice of the rural police station here, and asked them to act against the young woman and provide protection to the elderly woman. The police had referred the incident to officials entrusted with senior citizens’ helpline. Staff of the helpline visited the spot on Saturday evening and conducted probe.
A helpline official said that although the daughter has since allowed her mother to stay with her, because of continued standoff between them since some time, dispute arising between them again cannot be ruled out. The official said that a solution has to be found for this problem and that a resolution to this problem would be found on Monday after holding discussions with the deputy commissioner of the district on Monday because of intervening holidays.
